The new 10,000 square foot mausoleum and chapel building was integrated into the existing fabric of the historic cemetery. The oblique entrance road minimizes the building scale as does the monumental stone paving. The chapel forecourt, which is surrounded by a birch grove underplanted with Japanese forest grass, provides a gathering place before services. Custom designed arbors create an intermediate layer, connecting the building to the site. The bioswale filtration system manages the stormwater and connects a series of previously isolated wetlands.
